Jewel Imaging Blog bio picture
  • Hello. Welcome to my blog!

Please check out our new fine art photography and graphic design business!

This blog is no longer active but it is a great chronicle through my initial first few years as a photographer. The blog started while I was at photography school in Massachusetts, covers my time working in Florida and Georgia, and chronicles our recent 6 month adventure working with orphans in Thailand. Thanks for visiting!

Monthly Archives: August 2009

I hope you all enjoy these photos that I have taken on my off time before and after work over the past few weeks (I currently work as a staff photographer at The Dolphin Research Center )! I’ve had a few people ask to see more dolphin photos, so here are some, and I’m sure there will be more to come! Getting to know the dolphins and sea-lions is truly amazing. I get a rush every time I get to give one of my buddies a backrub, or they give me a smooch. They’re magical, no joke. Much of my time is spent taking photos of guests swimming and interacting with the dolphins. I also document research, take photos for publications, take medical photos for veterinary examination, and when we’re not too busy I can enjoy the AC while I work on things like photo archiving and retouching.

Merina and Tursi (DRC was once Flipper’s Sea School back in the 70s):

One of the boys swimming upside down. On clear days you can see down to the bottom of the deep Gulf of Mexico lagoons and its fun watching the dolphins goof off under the surface:

Pandora absolutely loves attention and getting her picture taken. She is definitely striking a pose for me here:

My amazing boyfriend Paul came to work with me one morning and got in a splash fight with some dolphin babies (left). He took a photo of me in action (on the right).

Kristina and Dana: Maternity Photos

Here are some of my favorite images from a sunset photo-shoot at the beach last week. Kristina and Dana are an awesome couple; they live on a sailboat, travel the world and have wonderful adventures. I’m grateful that I was able to meet them here in the Florida Keys. Little Tristan is due any day now, and I’m excited to meet and photograph him as well! Stay tuned for some new-born shots in the next few weeks (he will be the second new-born named Tristan whom I’ve photographed this year… wonder if that name is getting popular). We were going for a natural, photo-journalistic look with these images and I think we achieved it! I’d love to get some feedback; please let me know what you think!

On maternity photos: Witnessing & documenting this amazing time in a family’s life is an honor for me. I was speaking with my grandmother (who is in her mid eighties) the other day and she was surprised to hear that so many women choose to book sessions with professional photographers during pregnancy now. She said, “When I was having children, women just tried to cover it up. We wouldn’t have ever thought to document it. But now I wish I could remember what I looked like when I was carrying my children.” I know I would love to have photos of her when she was pregnant, and of my mother when she was pregnant with me. Check out some maternity images from earlier this summer here.

Pyar & Cynthia: Some Favorite Wedding Photos

(100+ more photos from P&Cs wedding in the previous post’s slideshow.)

Pyar & Cynthia: Wedding Slideshow

I hope you all enjoy these images from Pyar and Cynthia’s recent wedding that took place on Tybee Island in Georgia. I didn’t take as many photos as I normally do for weddings (since Pyar is my brother and there were good times to be had) but it was still hard to narrow down the shots. I’ll post some of my favorite individual images a little later on! Right now I’m working on the album design and some minor retouching.

I recently invested in some slideshow software for imaging professionals and I’ve been having a lot of fun familiarizing myself with the program. I’m really excited to start incorporating more slideshows and other multi-media into my work! Please let me know what you think of this first attempt; feedback would be really useful so I can improve the quality of the next show. The song is called The Garden by Cut Chemist (one of P&Cs favorites.) Pyar told me “their song” is The Most Beautiful Girl In The Room, but I thought The Garden might be a little more widely appreciated. Please share your thoughts about the images and slideshow!

Change of Address

Hey, there!

Just wanted to let everyone know that the Jewel Imaging blog address has changed to: ! If you have any bookmarks please make sure to update them!

I’ve decided to host my own blog instead of using the blogspot service so that I can post video, larger photos, and generally have more control over the custom look & feel of my blog. There will be some fun new features soon! Please stick with me as I spend a bit of time working on the new blog design! I know it doesn’t look too great quite yet.
