Peace

I hope that this season and the new year will bring you all an abundance of love, joy, peace and hope!

Tomorrow I’ll be heading back to Savannah after spending Christmas in Virginia and Pennsylvania. I’ve been surrounded by so many dear new friends. Though I’m usually not too crazy about holidays, this season has truly been magical for me. Life has been filled with so much change and so many blessings, as I hope it has been for you. I’ll elaborate on some of those amazing changes and blessings and will blog some recent work soon! Oh, and aren’t holiday treats wonderful? Need to hit the gym.

Haiti Trip Canceled – Winter in Downtown Savannah

Well, I didn’t expect to be posting on the blog today. I had planned to be in Haiti this week doing service work and taking photographs with The Lazarus Project. Sadly the trip was canceled. Because of the political unrest and rioting caused by the recent Haitian elections the State Department requested airlines to cancel flights into the country. This was disappointing news to hear, but I have faith that I’ll still be able to go in the future and will continue to do what I can from afar. The upside to all of this is that I have some unexpected time here in Savannah. I’m looking forward to admiring the beauty of each present moment and squeezing in some last-minute Portrait Sessions this week!

After hearing the news of the cancelation, instead of packing on Sunday afternoon Paul and I walked around downtown Savannah with our cameras as I gave him another photography lesson. It’s become one of our favorite things to do! For one of the photos (3rd from last) I set my camera flat on the ground to get a different angle, an idea that one of my mentors (Teresa Earnest) suggested that I try sometime. The live-view function on the MKII makes this technique really fun and I’m definitely going to experiment with it more. Here are some of my photos from the afternoon, all using the 100mm lens. I hope you enjoy these!

Tybee Wedding – Savannah GA Photographer

Yesterday the Weddings For Warriors Project had their second event day of the year, providing about 20 free weddings on Tybee Island to active duty Military Members. Most of the ceremonies were vow-renewals for couples who didn’t originally get the chance to have a wedding. I am so glad I had the opportunity to be a volunteer Photographer for this project again and give back a tiny bit. It was a great way to connect with other community members and photographers. I was involved with the project last month as well and photographed a ceremony at the First Baptist Church downtown Savannah – click here to see the photos from that. You can also click here to see a WSAV newsclip from last night.

Anyway, I just wanted to share a few of my favorites from yesterday! These were all taken at the historic Tybee Post Theater.

New Jewel Imaging Office-Studio in Savannah!

I have some VERY exciting news to share! I have a new office-studio space in the Savannah Wedding Studios ! It will be perfect for meeting with Jewel Imaging clients, day-to-day computer work, editing, retouching, printing, as well as some smaller scale Jewel Imaging photo shoots! The beautiful window light and hardwood floors will be lovely for newborn/baby sessions! If any friends or clients would like to stop by, just let me know!

In November I started interning with the fabulous Teresa Earnest of Memories ‘N More Photography who founded the Wedding Studio. It has been an invaluable learning experience so far. In exchange for my time and continued assisting work she has graciously allowed me to adopt one of the Studio rooms as my new workspace! I just moved in most of my office things this week and have already been absolutely LOVING the space. There are several studio spaces in the building currently occupied by A to Zinias florists, Two Cakes, and Cape Creations Catering as well as Teresa and me.

Below are some photos leading into the Wedding Studio and my office. I may bring my big monitor over and will get lots of photo prints up soon. I haven’t been blogging as much as usual because of all of these happenings, but I have a lot of new work to share so I’ll be posting again soon.

Congaree National Park – SC Camping Adventure

It’s time for another personal blogpost. Last weekend, to celebrate my 22nd birthday Paul took me on an awesome camping adventure. Sweet, huh? We set up our tent for 2 nights of primitive camping in Congaree National Park outside of Columbia, South Carolina. The park contains the largest old-growth flood plain in the U.S and it was truly magnificent. We spent a lot of time hiking and also relaxing. I love camping, the outdoors, and exploring new places, so it was pretty perfect. It would have been absolute heaven if we hadn’t been surrounded by boy scouts and shivering through temperatures of 33 degrees at night, but that kept things interesting. You can see a couple images of us together at the end which I took with the self-timer mode on my camera. I only took about 100 frames total during the weekend and really savored just shooting for myself. I hope you enjoy these photographs!

Weddings For Warriors Ceremony – Savannah GA Photographer

What a gift! Weddings For Warriors provided 20 free weddings and vow-renewals to active duty Military members on Wednesday. Volunteer vendors and sponsors, including some photographers and some very dedicated organizers helped with the ceremonies that occurred at venues throughout Savannah. It really was a beautiful way to say thank you to the brave men and women who sacrifice so much for us. I’m happy that I was able to play a small part and I look forward to continuing with the project next month as even more weddings take place.

I was truly honored to be the photographer for this ceremony at The First Baptist Church on Chippewa Square in Savannah. This lovely couple had the opportunity to renew their vows on Wednesday with their two sons; I believe they said they have already been married for ten years! I wish them many more years of happiness together. Here are some of my favorites from the short time I was able to spend with them.

Sweet Family of 3 – Savannah GA portrait photographer

These guys are one of the sweetest families you could meet. They have kind hearts, joyous spirits and an amazing, continuously growing love for one another. I hope I was able to capture some of that in these images. Paul came and assisted me with the session, and we really enjoyed getting to know this family! Our session was just a little while before this sweetie’s first birthday. One year olds are fun to photograph as they are learning to walk and explore, though it’s a challenge getting their attention and eye contact sometimes. Here are some of my favorites from the afternoon!

I’ve been staying busy everyday with portrait sessions, second shooting weddings, assisting, portfolio building, etc. and this past weekend I had a camping adventure! I’ll try to add some more blogposts soon!

Blink – Savannah Georgia Photographer

November feels good, though I often have the helpless feeling that every time I blink another month passes. What can I do about it? Completely live and love every moment while documenting the beauty I see, freezing fractions of seconds with my camera. Maybe that way I can blink a little slower. Here are some photographs from the very last day in October that I made with my 100mm in Savannah. Oh, and I had to share a Halloween snapshot of Paul and me at the end!
